Definitions

As you create your own Hirschfeld Pet Protection Agreement*, you may have questions about some of the specific terms and types of information you see. This page provides a glossary and explanation of those terms.

Pet Protection Agreement – The Hirschfeld Pet Protection Agreement is an easy, convenient and economical way to ensure your pet is cared for when you are no longer able. Click here for more information.

Owner – The person who presently owns the pet.

Pet Guardian – This is the person who will take physical care of your pet when youare no longer able. This person is also known as the caretaker, caregiver or pet guardian.

Backup Pet Guardian – This is the person who will take over the role of caring for your pet if the pet’s guardian is unwilling or unable to continue that responsibility.

Pet Guardian Organization – You may choose an organization, shelter or sanctuary to be the Pet Guardian of your pet. You may also name a pet guardian organization to be the one who acts, if there is no pet guardian in force, in order to assist in finding a home for your pet and/or to keep your pet in a perpetual pet-care program.

Backup Pet Guardian Organization –This is the organization who will provide shelter or sanctuary for your pet if the Pet Guardian Organization is unwilling or unable to continue that responsibility.

Beneficiary – The beneficiary is the person(s) and/or organization(s) who receives the remaining funds when your pet dies and the Agreement ends.
