Our Founder Rachel Hirschfeld
is a lawyer and a lover of animals. She concentrates in estates and trusts
for humans, but throughout her practice, and through the unfortunate illness
and passing of her beloved rescue dog, Soupbone, she has become aware
of the terrible situation that orphaned pets can be in. Rachel now has
two rescue pets, both of whom are happy and healthy; a dog named
Swizzle and a cat named Topper. She has developed The Hirschfeld Pet Protection
Agreement™* to help ensure that all owners, regardless of
wealth or lifestyle, can make legally enforceable plans for the long-term
protection and care of their pets.Rachel is an appointed member of New York State Bar Association's Special Committee on Animals and the Law, New York City Bar Association's Committee for Legal Issues Pertaining to Animals and The Animal Law Committee of the American Bar Association. She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She is a frequent author and lecturer on pet trusts and estate planning, and has been featured in media outlets including: Newsweek, The Today Show, Newsday, New York Sun, Dow Jones, CNN Online, The Bottom Line Retirement, The National Academy of Elder Law Attorney's News Journal and nationwide TV.
